All of my free time goes to my family and kids. I volunteer with the kids’ schools, softball, and driving them from activity to activity. So, can professional Mom be my membership? And, I definitely consider that a leadership role. 😃
Eight years ago, I took the leap to start my own firm after having my first daughter. I had already gotten my CPA and had experience in both public accounting and industry. Starting and running my own business has been one of the hardest things I have done in my life and the most rewarding.
Over the years, I have evolved and focused my practice on providing outsourced bookkeeping to clients that use QuickBooks Online. I am an early adopter and have been a fan for many years. Embracing new cloud technologies has allowed me to be a part of Intuit’s Accountant Council and have gone on to be a part of several Intuit VIP events. I have also been honored to be on CPA Practice Advisor’s 40 Under 40 list for 7 years now. In 2015, Iconis Group was named one of the Top 20 Firms of the Future.
In 2013, I started a weekly twitter chat for the QuickBooks Online community, #QBOchat. Every Thursday, our community gets together on twitter to chat about QuickBooks Online, learn about new Apps, and get tips on running an accounting firm. Some of my favorite past topics include Scary Books (for Halloween), New App Introductions, and the App Takeovers where they lead the conversation.
A few years ago, I also expanded the community to a blog, QBOchat.com. We post the transcripts from prior chats and articles that can benefit all QuickBooks Online users – Accountants, Small Businesses, App Developers, Intuit Employees, and more.
Favorite influencer(s) (authors, bloggers, mentors, speakers, etc.):
In past years, I have mentioned several amazing people that have influenced my career to date. One person that I haven’t mentioned is David Leary. He works at Intuit on the developer relations side. His title is “Small Business Ecosystem Evangelist”. I think that says it all!
David has been a great friend, but he is also an amazing influencer to so many in the industry. He has an amazing vision of where technology and accounting in small business is going and advice on how to get there. Over the years, he has challenged my views and opened up my mind.
